What is Find and Replace?
Find and replace is one of the most useful editing operations there is. You search a body of text for a word, phrase or pattern and swap every occurrence for something else in one go. This online version works on anything you paste in: an article draft, a list of names, an email template, a column copied from a spreadsheet or a block of code. It tells you exactly how many matches it found, highlights what changed and gives you the finished text to copy, which saves time and avoids the slips that creep in when you edit one instance at a time.
How Does It Work?
As you type in the Find and Replace with fields, Vebliy searches your text and builds the result immediately. In normal mode the search is treated as plain text, so characters such as dots and brackets mean exactly what they say. Match case controls whether capital letters matter. Whole word counts a match only when it is not part of a longer word, so searching for cat leaves category alone. Regular expression mode treats the search as a pattern, and lets you reuse parts of each match in the replacement with $1 and $2. Everything happens in your browser. No text or file is uploaded or stored, so it is safe for private documents.
How to Use It
- Paste or type your text into the Your text box.
- Enter the word or pattern to look for in the Find field.
- Type the replacement in Replace with, or leave it empty to delete every match.
- Switch on Match case, Whole word or Regular expression if you need them, and check the match count.
- Press Copy result to take the finished text, or Use as text to keep editing it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I replace only whole words?
Turn on Whole word. A match then counts only when the characters on either side are not letters, numbers or underscores, so cat will not change category or concat.
What can I do in regular expression mode?
Use patterns such as \d+ for numbers, \s+ for runs of spaces or ^ for the start of every line. In the replacement, $1 inserts a captured group, $& inserts the whole match and \n inserts a line break.
Why does my pattern show an error?
The pattern is not a valid regular expression, for example it has an unclosed bracket. The message under the options says what the browser found wrong, and the result returns once it is fixed.
Can I undo a replacement?
Your original text stays in the Your text box until you press Use as text, so you can always change the fields and try again. After applying a result, the swap button reverses a simple change.
Is my text stored or sent anywhere?
No. The search and replacement run inside your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded or saved. When you refresh or close the page, the text is gone.
