Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what Vebliy (vebliy.com) collects when you visit the site, what it does not collect, how advertising cookies work here and what choices you have. We wrote it in plain English because understanding your privacy should not need a lawyer.

Last updated:

The short version

  • Your files never leave your device. Photos, PDFs and text are processed inside your browser. They are not uploaded to our servers, and we never see or store them.
  • No account, no personal details. You do not have to sign up, log in or give your name or email address to use any tool.
  • No cookies of our own. The only things Vebliy saves on your device are your light or dark theme choice and, if you use the typing section, your typing progress. Both stay in your browser and are never sent to us. See section 7.
  • Ads come from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies, including the DoubleClick DART cookie, to show ads. You can switch off personalised ads at any time.
  • If you email us, we use your message only to read it and reply.

1.Who we are and what this policy covers

Vebliy is a collection of free online tools published at vebliy.com. In this policy, "Vebliy", "we", "us" and "our" mean the operator of that website. The policy applies to every page on the site, including all of the tool pages and their written guides.

It does not cover other websites that we link to, or the websites of advertisers whose ads you may see here. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to read them. If you have any question about this policy, write to us at support@vebliy.com or use the Contact Us page.

2.Your files and text never leave your device

Every tool on Vebliy runs entirely inside your web browser, using your own device's processing power. When you compress an image, convert a PDF, scan a QR code, count the words in an essay or generate a password, the file or text you provide is handled by code running on your device. It is not uploaded to any server, it is not copied into any database and it cannot be seen by us or by any third party.

Because nothing is uploaded, there is nothing for us to store, share, sell or delete. When you close or refresh the page, the files and text you used in a tool are gone. The tools do not keep a history of your work and do not send your input anywhere.

Some tools need extra program code to do their job, such as the libraries that read PDFs or compress images. That code is downloaded to your browser from vebliy.com itself when you use the tool. Receiving code from our website is not the same as sending your data to us, and none of your content travels back.

The QR Code Scanner can use your camera if you choose the camera option and give your browser permission. The video is analysed live on your device. No picture or video is recorded or transmitted, and you can scan from an uploaded image instead if you prefer not to use the camera.

3.Information we collect

Vebliy collects very little. The information involved falls into three groups.

Information you choose to send us

If you email us, or use the form on the Contact Us page to prepare an email, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write in your message. The Contact Us page has no server behind it: the form prepares an email in your own email app or webmail, and nothing reaches us until you press Send there. We use what you tell us only to read and answer your message and, if needed, to follow up.

Technical information collected automatically

Like almost every website, the servers that deliver this site to your browser keep standard technical logs. These typically include your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, the type of browser and device reported by your browser, and the page that referred you. We use this information to keep the site secure and working and to spot errors and abuse. The logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period under its own retention rules.

Information collected through advertising

When an ad is shown, Google and its advertising partners may collect and use information such as your IP address, device and browser details, cookie identifiers, the pages you view and how you interact with ads. This is explained in detail in section 5. We do not receive this information in a form that identifies you. We receive only summary reports, such as how many times ads were shown or clicked.

Information we do not collect

  • We do not ask you to create an account or log in.
  • We do not collect your name, postal address, telephone number or payment details through the site.
  • We do not collect the files, images, PDFs, passwords, text or colours you use in the tools.
  • We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information of any kind.

4.Cookies and local storage

A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device. Local storage is a similar browser feature that keeps small pieces of data on your device without sending them to a server with every request.

What Vebliy itself stores

Vebliy sets no cookies of its own. It writes two items to your device, both in local storage. The first is an entry named vebliy-theme, which remembers whether you chose the light or the dark theme. It contains the single word "light" or "dark", it is never sent to a server and it is not used to track you. The second, vebliy-typing-progress, belongs to the typing section and is explained in section 7. You can remove both at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Cookies set by third parties

When advertising is shown, Google and its partners set cookies on your device, as described in section 5. We do not control these cookies and cannot read them. They are governed by the privacy policies of the companies that set them.

Managing cookies

All major browsers let you see, block and delete cookies and site data in their settings. Blocking third-party cookies will not stop any Vebliy tool from working. It may mean that the ads you see are less relevant to you.

5.Advertising: Google AdSense and the DoubleClick cookie

Vebliy is free to use, and the cost of running it is covered by advertising. We use Google AdSense, an advertising service operated by Google, to show ads on the site.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on Vebliy. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to vebliy.com and/or other sites on the internet.

The DoubleClick DART cookie

Google also uses the DoubleClick DART cookie. The DART cookie uses information about your visits to Vebliy and to other websites to decide which ads to show you. It does not collect personal information such as your name or email address. You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google advertising privacy page (opens in a new tab).

Third-party vendors and ad partners

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to Vebliy or other websites. Google may work with other advertising technology partners; it publishes a list of the ad technology partners (opens in a new tab) it uses. You can read more about how Google handles data from sites like this one in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services (opens in a new tab) and in the Google Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab).

We do not have access to, and cannot control, the cookies and other technologies used by Google or its partners. Vebliy does not sell your personal information to anyone.

Your choices for personalised ads

You can switch off personalised advertising, or choose which companies may use your data for it, with any of these tools:

Opting out of personalised ads does not remove ads from the page. You will still see ads, but they are chosen from the content of the page and your general location rather than from your browsing history.

Where ads appear

Ads are shown in separate, clearly marked areas of the page, away from the controls of each tool. We never ask or encourage anyone to click on ads, and we ask you not to click an ad unless you are genuinely interested in it.

7.Typing progress and the data saved in your browser

The typing section of Vebliy, which includes the Speed Test, the Typing Course and the Typing Games, remembers your progress so that your best speed, your finished levels and your high scores are still there when you come back. It does this with your browser's local storage, which is described in section 4. No account is needed, and none of this data is ever sent to us.

The local storage keys we use

Vebliy uses exactly two local storage keys. It sets no cookies, and its own code does not use session storage or IndexedDB. Google and its advertising partners may store data of their own when ads are shown, as explained in section 5.

  • vebliy-theme: your light or dark theme choice. It holds the single word "light" or "dark".
  • vebliy-typing-progress: your typing progress, as listed in the next part.

What the typing progress contains

The vebliy-typing-progress key holds one small record. It contains only the following:

  • Your best typing speed in words per minute (WPM), and how many speed tests you have finished.
  • The course levels you have completed, and your best accuracy and best speed on each of them.
  • Your practice streak: how many days in a row you have practised, your longest streak and the date you last practised.
  • Your high score in each of the three typing games: Falling Words, Word Race and the Accuracy Challenge.
  • The name you typed on the course certificate, if you typed one. It is optional: with the box left empty, the certificate says "Typing Champion".

It does not contain the text you type, the individual keys you press, your IP address or any other information about you or your device. The certificate name is the only item that could identify you, and only if you choose to type your real name.

It stays in your browser

This data stays in your own browser, on your own device. It is never sent to any server and it is not accessible to us: we cannot see it, read it, copy it or recover it. Vebliy has no accounts and no database, so there is nowhere for it to go. Because it lives in one browser on one device, it is not shared with your other devices, or with other browsers or browser profiles on the same device. A private or incognito window usually starts empty and forgets what it saved when you close it.

The data is used only to give you the features you asked for: showing your records and your course progress, and putting your name on the certificate. It is not used for advertising, profiling or tracking. It stays on your device until you remove it. We set no expiry date, but a browser may delete site data that you have not used for a long time, or when it runs low on space.

If your browser blocks local storage, the typing section still works, but your progress is then kept only for that visit and is lost when you close or reload the page.

How to clear it

You can remove this data at any time, in either of two ways.

  1. On the site: open Typing Practice, go to the "Your progress" section and press Reset progress, then press Click again to erase to confirm. This sets your best speed, tests taken, completed levels, practice streak, game high scores and certificate name back to empty, and it cannot be undone. The button appears once you have saved some progress. It leaves your theme choice alone, and the vebliy-typing-progress entry stays in your browser as an empty record until you clear site data as described next.
  2. In your browser settings: every major browser lets you delete the data a site has stored. Open your browser's privacy or site data settings (often called "Cookies and site data" or "Website data"), search for vebliy.com and remove it. This deletes both vebliy-typing-progress and vebliy-theme. Choosing "Clear browsing data" and ticking "Cookies and other site data" has the same effect for every site you have visited.

To remove just one key, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Application tab (Chrome and Edge) or the Storage tab (Firefox and Safari), choose Local Storage, select this site and delete the key you want.

Clearing this data affects only the browser you do it in. Your records will be gone and we cannot restore them, because we never had a copy. No tool or typing page stops working when the data is removed.

8.Analytics and measurement

Vebliy does not set analytics cookies of its own and does not currently load a third-party analytics script. The only measurement of this site's use is the aggregate advertising reporting that Google provides to us as part of AdSense, such as ad impressions and clicks, and the basic server logs described in section 3.

If we add an analytics service in the future, for example Google Analytics, we will describe it here before it goes live and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent first.

9.Children's privacy

Vebliy is a general-audience website. It is not directed at children under 13, or under the higher age that local law sets for online consent in some countries (up to 16 in parts of the European Union), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. This is in line with the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child has sent us personal information, for example in an email, please contact us at support@vebliy.com. We will delete the information promptly.

10.Your rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR

If you are in the EEA or the United Kingdom, data protection law gives you rights over your personal data. For the limited data described in this policy, Vebliy is the controller, and you can reach us at support@vebliy.com.

Why we process data, and on what basis

  • Replying to your emails: our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us, and steps you ask us to take.
  • Keeping the site secure and working (server logs): our legitimate interest in running a safe and reliable website.
  • Showing personalised ads through Google and its partners: your consent, given through the consent message described in section 6.
  • Remembering your theme choice: the storage is needed to provide the setting you asked for when you switched theme.

Your rights

  • To ask whether we hold personal data about you and to receive a copy.
  • To have inaccurate data corrected.
  • To have your data erased.
  • To restrict how your data is used.
  • To receive your data in a portable format.
  • To object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
  • To withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis for processing.
  • To complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom.

Because we hold almost no personal data, the honest answer to a request will often be that we hold nothing about you. We will still reply and tell you so. We respond to requests within one month.

International transfers

Our hosting provider and Google operate around the world, so information such as your IP address may be processed in countries outside your own, including outside the EEA and the UK. Those providers rely on recognised safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for such transfers.

11.California and other US states (CCPA and CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the CCPA) gives you the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to request its deletion or correction, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and to be free from discrimination for using these rights.

Information collected in the past 12 months

  • Identifiers and internet activity, such as IP address, cookie identifiers, pages viewed and interaction with ads. These are collected by our hosting provider and by Google and its advertising partners.
  • Approximate location, derived from your IP address by those same providers.
  • Contact details and message content, only if you email us.

Sale and sharing

Vebliy does not sell personal information for money. However, the advertising cookies used by Google and its partners can count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law. You can opt out at any time with the tools listed in section 5, including Google Ads Settings (opens in a new tab) and the aboutads.info choices (opens in a new tab) page, or by writing to support@vebliy.com. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

How to make a request

Email support@vebliy.com with the subject line "Privacy request" and tell us what you would like us to do. We may ask you to confirm that you control the email address you write from. An authorised agent can make a request for you with your written permission. We respond within 45 days. Residents of other US states that have their own privacy laws, such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and Texas, can use the same process for the rights those laws provide.

12.Visitors in India

If you are in India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 applies to the digital personal data we process. We handle the limited data described in this policy only for the purposes described here. Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time, as explained in section 6.

You may ask us for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and for it to be corrected or erased, and you may raise a grievance with us at support@vebliy.com. We will reply as soon as we reasonably can. If you are not satisfied with our reply, you may approach the Data Protection Board of India as provided under that Act.

13.How long we keep information and how we protect it

Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with your request and no longer than necessary after that. You can ask us to delete your messages sooner. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period under its own retention rules. Advertising cookies stay on your device until they expire or you delete them.

The site is delivered over an encrypted HTTPS connection. More importantly, the way Vebliy is built keeps your content away from us entirely, because it never leaves your browser. No website or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we try to collect only what is needed so that there is very little to protect.

14.Links to other websites

Some pages link to other websites, such as Google's privacy tools and the opt-out pages listed in this policy. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. When you leave Vebliy, we recommend reading the privacy policy of the site you visit.

15.Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site, the law or our advertising partners change. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the "Last updated" date at the top. If a change is significant, for example adding a new analytics or advertising service, it will appear here before it takes effect. Please check this page from time to time.

16.Contact us

For any question about this policy or about your personal data, email us at support@vebliy.com or use the Contact Us page. Please also see our Terms & Conditions and Disclaimer.
